- How to translate vision and values into actions on the pitch
Having a clearly defined club vision and giving players space to work out what they value are two core reasons behind Tottenham’s strong start to the Women’s Super League season, says head coach, Rehanne Skinner.
“I came in with them not having won a game,” explains Skinner, who celebrates one year in charge of Spurs this week.
“So, when I walked through the door, I made my biggest focus area what we could set out and achieve together.
“And I wanted to know how they felt about that - both the staff and the players separately. I wanted to try and figure out where everybody's head was at.”
Understand individual motivations
In those early weeks at the club, Skinner, who worked in a variety of coaching roles at the English Football Association before joining the North London side, balanced work on the training pitch to improve results with many hours talking to players and staff – individually and collectively.
“When you’re setting out a vision you've got to get everybody on board and you've got to understand what people's motivations are to know how to direct the bus.”
