Individualised programmes can help players maximise their potential, explains England Cricket performance director, Mo Bobat (pictured above). Mike Owen/Getty Images Sport.
Learning:
• The benefits of individual player support over generic programmes
• Creating a non-linear player pathway
• Providing ‘expertise and experiences’ for players to access
As England Cricket’s performance director, part of Mo Bobat’s role is to ensure the men’s senior international team have a stream of talent ready to step into the squad when needed.
To do so, Bobat believes that young players’ development should be individualised rather than based on generic programmes that all players follow.
“We’re trying to work out: what are England’s selection needs over the next three or four years?” explains Bobat. “Which players do we think might be able to meet those needs? And then what are those players’ individual needs and how are they going to get there?”
