Helping players understand their role and responsibilities

Coaching practices that help players understand their role and responsibilities, the tactics of the opposition and the space you may be able to exploit on matchday, are the best way to feel prepared before a game, explains former Sheffield United midfielder Ben Osborn.

“During the week we're always preparing for a game, so I enjoy it when we're doing sessions that are game-related,” explains Osborn, who made 27 Premier League appearances for the Blades in 2020/21.

“It might be 11v11 on a smaller pitch, but with different scenarios that we're going to take into the weekend.

“Whatever makes it clearer on a Saturday or on a game day helps massively. I feel more comfortable when we do things like that.

“I do quite enjoy patterns of play because it just starts to put little things in your head about how we're going to play and movements on the ball.”
