- Why Coach Developers should communicate how and why they work in the way they do
- Linking coaching practice to research, rather than research to practice
Coach Developers, Mentors and Heads of Coaching must show ‘genuine empathy and interest’ in coaches if coach development work is going to lead to effective change in behaviour, says Chris Cushion, professor of coaching and pedagogy at Loughborough University.
“The best coach developers are those that start with: “How can I help you figure out what it is that you're trying to do? And how can I help you move towards doing that better?” says Cushion.
“When there's a genuine empathy and interest in the coach and the coach feels that this person is trying to help and understand, then there is a better chance of acceptance.”
