Working effectively with individual players doesn’t need to be done in isolation, explains Dan Micciche, former Arsenal U18 head coach.

“When we do individual work, it isn't generally taking an individual away and working with them individually - it's within the group work,” says Micciche, who joined Arsenal’s academy in 2018  after a spell in charge of MK Dons first-team.

“So, for example, let's say a player needed to work on composed finishing. 

“We might be in a positioning game, but we would put mannequins in the corners of the goal. We might say to a player that the only way you can score is you've got to beat the keeper, but you've got to hit one of those mannequins - because that's their focus.”
